Word Origin:
early 16th cent.: from French, literally stuffing, from farcir ‘to stuff’, from Latin farcire. An earlier sense of ‘forcemeat stuffing’ became used metaphorically for comic interludes “stuffed” into the texts of religious plays, which led to the current usage.
