two-minute silence
two-minute silence [two-minute silence] BrE NAmE noun (in Britain) a silence lasting two minutes, held every year at 11 a.m. on ↑Remembrance Sunday, in memory of the people who died during the two world wars and other conflicts. The silence is usually held at public ceremonies such as the one at the ↑Cenotaph in London.
