three-day event
three-day event [three-day event] BrE NAmE noun a type of ↑horse riding competition that lasts for three days. On the first day there is a ↑dressage contest, in which judges decide how well riders can control their horses when performing certain movements. On the second day, there is ↑cross-country riding, when the horses are ridden through the countryside. On the third day, there is ↑showjumping, when the horses have to jump over high barriers in a specially constructed area. The riders must ride the same horse on all three days.
