Montgomery
Montgomery [Montgomery] BrE NAmE
the capital city of the US state of ↑Alabama. It is on the Alabama River, and is sometimes called the ‘Cradle of the Confederacy’ because the city was also the first capital of the ↑Confederate States. Martin Luther ↑King began the US ↑civil rights movement in Montgomery when he led an African-American refusal to use the buses there.
