ˌlife ˈpeer [life peer] BrE NAmE noun (in Britain) a person who is given the title of ↑peer (= ‘Lord’ or ‘Lady’) but who cannot pass it on to their son or daughter Culture: Male life peers are given the title of ↑baron and are addressed as ‘Lord’, and female life peers are given the title of ↑baroness or countess and are addressed as ‘Lady’, ‘Baroness’ or ‘Countess’.
