Hyde Park
Hyde Park [Hyde Park] BrE NAmE 1. 1 a large public park in central London, England, next to ↑Kensington Gardens. It is famous for ↑Speakers' Corner, where people can make public speeches on any topic, ↑Rotten Row, a riding track for horses, and the ↑Serpentine lake. In 1851 the ↑Great Exhibition was held in Hyde Park, and it is now a centre for large public meetings and concerts. At the south-east corner of the park is Hyde Park Corner, a place where several busy streets meet. 2. 2 a district to the south of central ↑Chicago, along the edge of Lake ↑Michigan. It includes the University of Chicago.
