a successful US television ↑western series (1955–75), the longest ever made. It developed strong characters and did not emphasize violence. The stories were set in ↑Dodge City and were about Marshal Matt Dillon, played by James Arness. Other characters included Miss Kitty, Chester and ‘Doc’.
