The party began in 1792 as the Democratic Republican Party. Democratic Presidents have included Thomas Jefferson, Andrew ↑Jackson, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, John F ↑Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. The traditional symbol for the party is the donkey.
