Chinese cabbage
ˌChinese ˈcabbage 7 [Chinese cabbage] BrE NAmE noun uncountable (BrE also ˌChinese ˈleaves plural ˌChinese ˈleaf uncountable) a type of vegetable that is eaten cooked or in salads. There are two types of Chinese cabbage, one with long light-green leaves and thick white ↑stems which is similar to ↑lettuce and one with darker green leaves and thicker white ↑stems. The first type is usually called ‘Chinese leaves ’ in British English and the second type is called ‘pak choi ’(BrE) or ‘bok choy ’(NAmE). See also: ↑Chinese leaves
