Beowulf
Beowulf [Beowulf] BrE NAmE
a long poem in ↑Old English, probably written in the 8th century. It tells how the ↑hero Beowulf kills two ↑monsters and finally dies killing a third. It was the first major European poem that was not written in Latin or Greek.
