Word Origin:
Old English, from ↑arch- ‘chief’ + biscop (see ↑bishop), replacing earlier heah-biscop ‘high-bishop’.

Culture:
In the ↑Church of England there are two archbishops, the ↑Archbishop of Canterbury and the ↑Archbishop of York, who both have a place in the ↑House of Lords. The ↑Archbishop of Westminster is the ↑Roman Catholic bishop of the highest rank in Britain. The title ‘Your Grace’ is used when talking to an archbishop and ‘His Grace’ when referring to one.
