Alaska
Alaska [Alaska] BrE NAmE
the largest and most northern state of the US, connected to the other states by the Alaska Highway through Canada. It is sometimes called ‘the Last Frontier’ and produces a lot of oil. The land was bought from Russia in 1867 and Alaska became the 49th state in 1959. The capital city is Juneau, and the largest city is Anchorage.
