A more expensive type of Scotch whisky is single malt, made in the ↑Highlands from a single type of grain. Many people drink whisky mixed with water, soda water or soft drinks (= drinks containing no alcohol) such as ginger ale or cola, while others prefer to drink it with nothing added, or with ice (called on the rocks).
