		| party political broadcast

party political broadcast [party political broadcast] BrE NAmE noun
(in Britain) a short broadcast on radio or television made by a political party to try to persuade people to vote for it, e.g. in a general election. There are special rules to make sure that each party is allowed a fair amount of time for such broadcasts. Such broadcasts in the US are called paid political broadcasts, or, more generally, ‘political advertising’. The ↑FCC requires television companies to give political parties and candidates ‘reasonable access’ but does not say how many advertisements are allowed.
