Yeomen of the Guard
▪ I. the Yeomen of the Guard [the Yeomen of the Guard] BrE NAmE noun [pl] a military unit which traditionally guards the British king or queen at certain ceremonies. It was created in 1485 for the ceremony in which ↑Henry VII became king. Its members still wear a red uniform in the ↑Tudor style of that period, similar to that worn by Yeomen Warders, though the two groups are quite separate. ▪ II. It is about a man who gets married just before he is to be executed in the ↑Tower of London and is then told that he has been forgiven and will not be executed after all.
