Wounded Knee
Wounded Knee [Wounded Knee] BrE NAmE
a small river in the US state of ↑South Dakota where US soldiers killed more than 200 Native-American men, women and children of the ↑Sioux people on 29 December 1890. This was the final major battle of the ↑Indian wars. In 1973 members of the American Indian Movement occupied the village there for over two months, demanding that the US Senate take action to help Native Americans.
