the Ulster Unionist Party
the Ulster Unionist Party [the Ulster Unionist Party] BrE NAmE (abbrUUP) a political party in Northern Ireland, formed in 1905 and led from 1995 to 2005 by David Trimble. It is one of the main political parties that wants Northern Ireland to remain a part of the ↑United Kingdom. In 2003 it had six Members of Parliament in the ↑House of Commons but three of them resigned in protest at their leader’s support of the ↑Good Friday Agreement.
