Shoshone
Sho·shone 7 [Shoshone Shoshones] BrE [ʃəʊˈʃəʊni] NAmE [ʃoʊˈʃoʊni] noun (pl. Sho·shoneor Sho·shones) a member of a Native American people many of whom now live in the US state of Wyoming Word Origin: of unknown origin. Culture: The Shoshone originally lived as hunters in an area stretching from south-eastern ↑California to western ↑Wyoming. About 8 000 still live there on reservations (= lands given and protected by the US government). The ↑Comanche people separated from the Wyoming group of Shoshone.
