the Public Record Office
the Public Record Office [the Public Record Office] BrE NAmE the offices in London where government records for England and Wales are kept. These are made available to the public under the Freedom of Information Act (2005) which replaced the earlier ↑thirty-year rule. Among the important historical documents kept at the Public Record Office is the ↑Domesday Book of 1086. In 2003 the ↑National Archives became responsible for the Public Record Office.
