Newmarket [Newmarket] BrE NAmE
a town in ↑Suffolk in eastern England, which has been a major horse-racing centre for more than 300 years. It has two famous ↑racecourses where some of Britain’s most important races take place each year. It is also the home of the ↑Jockey Club, the National Stud (= centre for breeding horses) and the National Horseracing Museum.
