Creek 7 BrE [kriːk] NAmE [kriːk] noun (pl. Creekor Creeks) a member of a Native American people, many of whom now live in the US state of Oklahoma Word Origin: [Creek] from ↑creek, because they lived beside the waterways of the flatlands of Georgia and Alabama, USA. Culture: The Creek were mostly farmers, originally in the states of ↑Alabama and ↑Georgia. They were one of the ↑Five Civilized Tribes. Under their leader ↑Tecumseh they were defeated by General Andrew ↑Jackson at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1814) in Alabama. They were then moved to the West.
