Chester [Chester] BrE NAmE
a city in Cheshire, north-west England, and its administrative centre. It was an important military centre in Roman Britain, and is best known now for its 15th– and 16th–century buildings and for the city wall, originally built all round the town to protect it from attack, which still stands.
